How many rolls of turf do I need?

Most UK turf is sold in rolls that each cover one square metre, so the number of rolls is simply your lawn area plus a margin for cutting in around curves and edges. This calculator adds 5% wastage, which is about right for a straightforward rectangular lawn; add more if your garden has lots of curves or awkward corners.

Measure the actual ground to be turfed, not the whole garden, and for an odd shape split it into rectangles and add them up. Lay turf the same day it arrives, as it does not keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is the turf calculator free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs entirely in your browser.

How accurate is it?

It gives a reliable estimate for ordering based on standard UK figures, but real quantities vary with ground conditions, wastage and how materials settle. Always add a margin and confirm with your supplier before buying.
